 Movie recommendation:

Smilla's Sense of Snow "This movie, based on the Danish novel by the same name, is a fabulous thriller with an extraordinary heroine. Smilla is a half-Inuit glaciologist who knows how to read snow--and learns how to decipher evil by battling power-hungry scientists" (CBC Radio). Stars Julia Ormond and Gabriel Byrne. Based on the book by Peter Hoeg. Published by Doubleday.

 Book recommendation:

Icefields by Thomas Wharton. "In 1898, explorers set out to map an Alberta glacier. Jack Hodgins called this first novel 'a shining ice-cathedral of a story, lovely, mysterious and awe-inspiring'. Icefields won a 1996 Commonwealth Writers' Prize." (CBC Radio). Published by NeWest Press.
